Engineers design programmable RNA vaccines: Tests in mice show the vaccines work against Ebola, influenza, and common parasite

Engineers design programmable RNA vaccines: Tests in mice show the vaccines work against Ebola, influenza, and common parasite : Engineers have designed programmable RNA vaccines that could be rapidly manufactured and deployed. The vaccines have been shown effective against Ebola, H1N1 influenza, and Toxoplasma gondii, in tests in mice. They could also be useful against other infectious diseases and cancer.

Flipping crystals triples solar-cell performance

Flipping crystals triples solar-cell performance : In a step that could bring perovskite crystals closer to use in the burgeoning solar power industry, researchers have tweaked their crystal production method and developed a new type of two-dimensional layered perovskite with outstanding stability and more than triple the material's previous power conversion efficiency.

Night-time light pollution causes spring to come early

Night-time light pollution causes spring to come early : Human use of artificial light is causing spring to come at least a week early in the UK, researchers have found. Nanoscientists develop the 'ultimate discovery tool': Rapid discovery power is similar to what gene chips offer biology

Nanoscientists develop the 'ultimate discovery tool': Rapid discovery power is similar to what gene chips offer biology : The discovery power of the gene chip is coming to nanotechnology. Researchers have figured out how to make combinatorial libraries of nanoparticles in a very controlled way. Some of the nanoparticle compositions have never been observed before on Earth. The tool they are developing could be used to rapidly test millions to billions of different nanoparticles at one time to zero in on the best particle for a specific use. Applications include catalysts, light-harvesting materials, pharmaceuticals and optoelectronic devices.

Internet attacks: Finding better intrusion detection

Internet attacks: Finding better intrusion detection : The brute force and sheer scale of current Internet attacks put a heavy strain on classic methods of intrusion detection. Moreover, these methods aren't prepared for the rapidly growing number of connected devices: scalability is a major issue. Now a researcher proposes another way of monitoring internet traffic, thus tracing those attacks that actually have an effect and not all the others. The open source software he developed, is already being tested and used by several organizations in the world.
